This is a Huang Shan Mao Feng green tea from Qimen.
While Qimen is known for its black tea it is in the Huang Shan area and has a longer history of green tea. This tea is made by an old friend of mine and is fried in a wok by hand, a process that is extremely rare.
This years tea is an improvement from last year. The tea is cleaner with more of that classic Mao Feng thick body. An edamame vegetal flavor is there but it is softer and more balanced as compared to last year. There is a little bit of a burnt flavor, which is also apparent on the leaves, and while this is a bit of a flaw it does not ruin the flavor.
This year my friend has created a Mao Feng that has everything that a classic Mao Feng should have, mainly that weighty body, while giving it a flavor and characteristics that are unlike other Mao Fengs.
