From the Long Juan town of Anxi, Fujian, this Tie Guan Yin is traditionally roasted.
The traditional Tie Guan Yin roast is a soft roast, giving the flavor of brown rice. A good Tie Guan Yin roast, like the one on this tea, does not cover up the characteristics of the cultiver. Tie Guan Yin is a little dense with a metallic like note and a long lasting floral aroma. The roast of this Tie Guan Yin not only allows you to taste the Tie Guan Yin flavor, but compliments it.
This Tie Guan Yin is roasted over charcoal. Charcoal roasted Tie Guan Yin is rare as many makers turn to electricity for roasting. The use of charcoal gives the flavor a depth not achievable with eletric roasting. This year in particular the roasted flavor is very smooth.
Notes of brown sugar, almonds and kettle corn.
